At Roberts we look to celebrate the success of our local Dorset producers and suppliers.
Ford Farm is a West Country Farmhouse Cheesemaker idyllically located in the rolling Dorset Downs, overlooking the World Heritage Jurassic Coast.
They are one of the few remaining traditional farmhouse cheddar makers producing 3/4 of the UK Volume. To create their amazing produce they select the highest quality milk, sourced from local, free-range dairy herds.
Apart from creating traditional west country farmhouse cheddars, ford farms creates several other cheeses. They are also well known for their wax-coated Cheddar Truckles and famous Dorset Red.
However, it was a goat cheese the stole the prize at the Global Cheese Awards. The cave aged goat’s cheese is a deliciously mild, savoury, firm cheese which is similar to a traditional cheddar in texture but with a distinctive yet subtle ‘goat’ flavour. The Wookey Hole Cave environment adds yet another dimension to the ageing process. The year round contact 12 degree centigrade and humidity bestows the cheese with the added benefit of rich earthy and nutty flavours with caramel top notes.
Cave Aged Goats Cheese is made using the same artisanal techniques as the multi-award winning Cave Aged Cow’s Milk Cheddar. The milk is sourced from South West Based Bromes Farm. cave-aged-goats
